Abstract

196,306. French, E. H. Oct. 17, 1921. Hydrocarbons, distilling; spray evaporators; separate heater and evaporator apparatus.-Hydrocarbon oils are heated by passage through a coil C, to a temperature below the average boiling point of the fraction to be removed and are sprayed by natural gas, steam, or the uncondensed gases obtained in the process, heated in a coil L<2>, into a separating chamber E which may be heated and under reduced pressure. The unvolatilized oil falls on to an inclined bottom 6 and is led by a pipe 8 to a chamber F. The vapours pass through a heated scrubbing-tower G from which condensates pass to the chamber F, to tubular condensers I, I<1>, I<2>, the later ones of which mav be fitted with jackets for circulation of cooling water, and a scrubbing tower G<1>. Uncondensed gases are withdrawn by a pump K and are passed to a storage tank L, or to a tank L<1> from which they pass to the heater L<2>. The residual oil from the chamber F mav be passed through a similar apparatus, in which higher temperatures are used, When a light fraction is to be separated, the oil may be sprayed without preliminary heating, the separating- chamber E only being heated. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 13089/91, 7108/97, and 107,502.
