Addressing-machines.-The addressing-machine described. in the parent Specification is provided with a system of levers between the main operating-lever 2 and the rod z for moving, through the intermediary of the lever system 3 - - 7, the impression pad 16 into printing position, whereby a listing - strip can be automatically fed forward with a step-by-step motion, the system of levers being so controlled by the rod z that the list is only fed forward when an impression has been made. The forward end of a strip 22 is held in a clip 40 connected to a plate 25 slidable on guide-rails 23, 24 arranged perpendicularly to the slide track for the address plates b. The guiderail 24 is channelled to receive a ratchet bar 26 capable of reciprocating and engaging a pawl 37 on the plate 25. The bar 26 is connected by a link 28 to a rocker plate 29 which is connected bv a rod 21 to the lower end of an arm 18 pivoted at 17 to the lever 2. A link 20 connects the upper end of the rod 18 to the rod z, oscillation of which is prevented by a hook u carried by the lever r, is when the electromagnet n is energized by the passing of a plate b from which an impression is desired. Normally, the relative motion between the lever 2 and the rod z is so small that the ratchet bar 26 is only slightly reciprocated, but when the rod z is held by the hook u, the next downward movement of the lever 2 causes the ratchet bar 26 to be moved to the right a distance of at least one tooth whereby, after the impression, the plate 25 is advanced together with the listing strip 22. A number of holes 33 in the rocker plate 29 and slots in the ends of the lever 18 allow for adjustment of the throw of the ratchet bar 26. The impression pad 16 is mounted in the head of the lever 2 in the manner described in Specification 145,534.
