Abstract

193,229. Osborne, A. B., and Sodazone, Ltd. Jan. 10, 1922. Fixed-chamber apparatus for liquids, controlling passage of air for; valve systems for.-A measuring- chamber 7 is fixed to a flange 5 on the body 1 of the tap and has inlet and outlet openings 3, 12 adapted to be closed by valves 30, 14 respectively, these valves being carried by a rod 4 slidably mounted in the body of the top and operated by an external lever 21. The cylindrical inlet valve 30 slides in a cylindrical seating, and has an inclined operating surface with a slot 31 coacting with an inclined recess 28 concentric with the bora 19 of the top to allow liquid to flow into the measuring-chamber and air to escape when the rod is in its lowest position, the rod being normally kept in this position by a spring 26 acting between it and a cap 27 in which the lever 21 is pivoted. Slidably connected to the rod by a pin 17 and slot 16 is a sleeve 15 carrying the substantially conical outlet valve 14, and forced away from the rod by a spring 18 so that in the normal position the outlet 12 is closed. When the rod 4 is lifted by the lever 21, the inlet 3 is closed before the pin 17 reaches the upper end of the slot 16, further upward movement opens the outlet 12 and also an air inlet passage 32 in the rod so that the chamber may empty. The. body 1 may be made of tin, the chamber 7 of glass, and the valves of vulcanite to resist the action of acids.
