Abstract

13,803. Jofeh, J. Sept. 28. Tivoli billiards and the like.-A number of display devices are provided adjacent a series of viewing-apertures and each time a ball is caught in the moving cup, one of the devices is brought into view; winning balls return into play, and, if. the operator is successful a certain number of times, the coin is returned. Display plates 34 pivoted at 35 are normally disposed, as shown in Fig. 2, to one side of viewing-apertures 36. The first winning ball passes from a shoot 32 into a curved member 33 attached to the first display plate 34 and tilts that plate into the display position, as shown in Fig. 4, in which position its projecting arm 40 serves to guide the second winning ball on to an arm 68 projecting from the second display plate; another arm 43 projecting from the second display plate serves, when this plate has been tilted by the second winning ball, to direct the third winning ball to the third display plate; the plates are thus operated one after another in definite sequence. The first three winning balls strike the inclined surface 79 of a member 76 and pass by a shoot 37 and aperture 39 to the playing position; the fourth winning ball strikes the inclined surface 78 of the, member 76 and passes down a shoot 44 effecting the return of the coin. By adjusting the position of the member 76, the number of successful operations necessary to effect the return of the coin can be varied. In the arrangements shown, designs on a plate 60 disposed behind the display plates 34 are normally visible through the apertures 36. In place of the plates 34, a display disk rotated step by step behind a number of fixed apertures may be employed. Before play can commence, the plates 34 must be moved out of the display position by pins 67 on a bar 66 operated from an external handle 62, a projection 69 on a lever 65 simultaneously rocking a lever 6 to withdraw a stop 5 from the coin shoot. The inserted coin depresses a spring-controlled lever 8 from engagement with a stop 10, whereupon a spring 11 moves the lever to the right, thereby rotating a spindle 12 and lifting a bar (not shown), thus permitting the balls to pass into play. Each ball passes in turn on to a plunger 17 disposed beneath a column of balls supported in a tube 18 by an inwardly projecting spring- controlled lever 20. When the plunger is raised by rotating an external handle 23<a>, the top ball is forced out of the tube between gripping-jaws 21, 22, and passes by a shoot 26 and aperture 27 to the front of the board. The lever 8 is restored to the locking-stop 10 by a bell-crank 71 on a lever connected to the handle 23<a>. Returning coin; coin-discharging mechanism.-A ball passing down the shoot 44 trips a detent 45 from engagement with a lever 49, whereupon a spring withdraws a stop 7 from the coin shoot, permitting the coin to be returned to the player. If the coin is not returned, it is discharged into the money-box when the next coin is inserted by a, pin 57 on a lever 54 connected to a lever 53 projecting into the coin-insertion slot.
