Dynamos and motors combined for transmitting power; starting prime movers, dynamo electric machines with control circuits for. - A dynamoelectric power-transmitting device comprises two stators 1, 2 and two rotors 5, 6, each provided with common conductor-bard 4, 9, electrically connected at the ends to form squirrel-cage windings. A field-magnet member 10 secured to the driving- shaft 8 rotates in the space between the stator 1 and the rotor 5, and the currents generated in the conductor-bars 4, 9 are led to the stator 2 and rotor 6 where they interact and produce a driving torque on the rotor 6. The rotors 5, 6 are mounted on a sleeve 7 secured to the driven shaft 29. The field magnet has outer polar projections 11 and inner projections 12 coacting with the stator and rotor conductors 4, 9 respectively ; the coils on the two sets of poles are excite by a battery 21 and the relative strengths of the sets of poles are regulated by means of rheostats 26, 27 and a change-over switch 28 so as to produce varying speeds in both directions of rotation of the driven shaft 29 without changing the direction of rotation of the driving-shaft 8. An additional distributed winding 30 is carried in the slots of the stator 1 to enable the machine either to run as a motor from the battery 21 to start up the prime-mover or to operate as a generator to charge the battery.
