Signature-gatherers and the like; assorting and delivery apparatus.-Relates to sheetgathering machines wherein the sheets are transferred to, and piled up on, a conveyer, comprising a bar rake adapted to rise up above and move along between the bars constituting the conveyer table so as to convey the piles towards a stacking or other mechanism, and consists in operating the rake through an adjustable link gear whereby the longitudinal movement may be adjusted according to the size of the sheets. As applied to the sheet-gathering machine described in Specification 22,314/14, on which the sheets to be gathered are arranged in sideby-side piles 10 on edge and are taken from the piles by oscillating suckers 1 and conveyed to reciprocating grippers 16 which deliver them to a conveyer, the sheets fall from the grippers on to a grate-like table 22, and after each delivery of sheets; a bar rake 23 rises between the table bars to lift the sheets and moves towards the end of the table, after which it descends and makes its return movement. The rake 23 is supported through rolls on a bar 24, which is carried on pivoted arms and rocked to raise and lower the rake by a link 26 from a. cam 28. The longitudinal movement of the take is effected from a crank-pin 29 through a link 30, rock-arm 31, and link 33 adjustably fixed to the rake, the fulcrum 35 of the rookarm 31 being adjustable on the arm and on the support 32 for adjusting the travel. The end pile of gathered sheets is transferred from the table 22 to a receiver 42 by a finger 41 on a carriage 40, which is reciprocated, by a cord extending between the crank 29 and a spring drum, on a guide-bar 39, which is raised and lowered by a. rock-lever 37 actuated by the rising and falling bar 24. The pile in the receptacle is supported on a bracket 47 frictionally held to the side by a spring 46, and is pressed down after each addition by a pivoted foot 45 on a rocking frame. The receptacle is constructed as a carriage with wheels on rails 48.
