Sliding valves.-In a gate, sluice, or exhaust or high-pressure steam or like valve of the kind having two disks and internal wedging consisting of three parts such as 6, 6, 12, the wedge blocks are provided with outwardly diverging members 7 adapted to abut on projections 8 on each side of the valve casing when the valve is in the closing position. The central wedge may be formed integral with the operating-nut 3, or, as shown, integral with a sleeve recessed to receive the nut 3. The valve arrangement provides a wedging action while admitting of free expansion and contraction of the outer disks with the valve casing. Dirt is also prevented from accumulating on the wedging-projectious 8.
