Sept. 9.] Centrifugal machines.- A thin shell i, Fig. 1, having the external form of the pipe, column, &c. to be made, is temporarily mounted in a cylinder h by means of one-piece end rings m and two-part intermediate ring k, and while the whole is rotated, the concrete is poured into it from along ladle s, Fig. 3, carried by an axially sliding frame. When a sufficiently thick layer o has been laid on, a reinforcement p is inserted, broader end rings m<1> are applied, and a further layer r is added. The shell is then removed from the cylinder and replaced by another while the contents of the first one set. The ladle s is clamped to eccentrics v on the carrying-shaft u, so that the interval between its edge and the shell can be adjusted. Longitudinal strips, slightly tapering, may intervene between the shell and the rings. A ladle s<1>, Fig. 10, not adapted to be rocked and carried by a slide 4, is provided with an adjustable scraping- blade w<1> and a valve 7.
