Abstract

12,667. Ross, R. L., and Ross & Co., R. L. Sept. 3. Seats.-The seat member of a safety-valve is clamped between two parts of the valve casing in such a manner as to prevent distortion due to unequal expansion. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the seat 2 is formed with a flange 4 having a ground face 4<a> adapted to engage a corresponding seat formed on the lower part of the casing. The flange 4 is clamped between recesses 12, 13 formed in flanges 6, 7, the flange 4 being of such thickness as to leave a space 15 through which any steam leaking past the faces 4<a> escapes. The diameter of each portion of the seat is less than that of the part of the casing in which it fits, to allow for the free expansion of the seat. Modifications are described in which the ground joint is made with conical surfaces, and in which the flange 4 is dispensed with, the ground joint being formed on the lower end of the valve seat. Specifications 12,471/04, 19,888/12, and 12,605/13 are referred to.
