Abstract
12,408. Thomas, C. O. W. Aug. 28. Siphon-discharge water-waste preventers ; valvedischarge water-waste preventers; cisterns for.- Consists in connecting the flush pipe to the bottom of a cistern through a cone or funnel and maintaining the flush pipe normally full of water. In one form, the flush pipe b, Fig. 1, connected with the cistern a by a cone c, carries the discharge valve d near its lower end. Within the cistern a is an auxiliary tank e containing the supply cock and connected to the main cistern by a pipe g and a passage h in the valve d. The passage h is closed when the main flush valve d is open. In another form, a siphon bend k, l, Fig. 2, is formed in the flush pipe b, the. upper part being above the water-level in the cistern. The lower bend n lies below the flush outlet, so that water is retained at the end of the flush, the quantity of water being increased by a downward or lateral extension of the pipe if required. The flush is started by depression of a piston o in the mouth of the pipe b, an enlargement p being provided to allow the water to pass the piston. Or the piston may normally be lower in the flush pipe, its withdrawal being used to start the flush by causing a depression in the pipe k, the forward surge which follows carrying water over the bend.
