Abstract
11,393. Vickers, Ltd., and North, T. K. Aug. 6. Submarine mines.-Relates to submarine mines provided with projecting arms to fire the mine on impact with a ship, and consists in making these arms foldable so as to lie within the anchor before the mine is laid ; this enables the mine to be laid through an ordinary torpedo tube. In the form shown, the mine proper, comprising the explosive casing A<1> and flotation chamber A, is attached to the anchor B by hinged hooks a, which are locked before the mine is used by a rope a<x>. This rope is removed when the mine is inserted in the launching tube, the wall of which then hold the hooks in place until the mine is laid. The firing- device is generally as described in Specification 4994/15; but, according to this invention, the arm D has an extension D<1> pivoted at d and normally folded within the anchor ; when the anchor falls away from the flotation chamber, the extension D<1> is swung out radially and locked in this extended position by a spring sleeve D', which also removes a locking-pin d<1x> from the clutch of the firing device. Specifications 125,416 and 125,417 are referred to.
