Abstract

[Cognate Application, 13,415/15.] Coiling. - Electric conductors or like wires which require to be rapidly paid out are laid on a band A in a series of loops B', Fig. 3, held together by one or more bands C, C<1> carried through all the loops. The loops are pressed flat on the band so that the band with the wire can be wound on a reel. Fig. 2 shows in plan an apparatus for producing the complete band shown in Fig. 3. The main band A, preferably of paper, is led from a roll under the bed E to a pair of rollers F, G, the upper roller having rubber enlargements G<1> for engaging the bands and wire. The wire is fed from one or more reels R, carried on the rotary arms Q, to the inclined guides J, the ends of which are adjusted to the desired width of the loops and project between the rollers F, G. The bands C, C<1> are fed from rolls N, N<1> through guides P, P'. The main band A may be wide enough to be folded over and cover the wire, and the bands C, C' may be secured at intervals by an adhesive to the main band.
