Abstract

9428. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. June 28. R÷ntgen-ray tubes.-Cathode rays are deflected from the axis of a rotating R÷ntgen-ray tube, so that the active surface of the anticathode is continually changed, the focus remaining stationary. The tube may, as described in Specification 14,892/13, comprise a heated cathode 2 giving a pure electron discharge and surrounded by a focusing-shield 4. A truncated cone 3 of tungsten may form the anode and anti-cathode. The ends of the tube are mounted in shafts 7, 8 provided with sliprings conveying the main and heating currents. An insulating-base 11 supports the bearings of the shafts and a cup 12, which surrounds the bulb and is of lead glass or other material opaque to R÷ntgen rays. A coil 20, supplied with current by a battery through a resistance, deflects the cathode rays.
