Abstract

4738. British Thomson-Houston Co., and Wedmore, E. B. March 26. Protective arrangements.-In the protection of alternating-current parallel-conductor systems by automatically disconnecting a feeder &c. in case of fault, transformers 10 normally circulating current in an auxiliary circuit are used with reverse current relays A, B, the relays being so connected that they are normally traversed by a current in the opposite direction to that requisite for operation and consequently do not respond until the unbalancing exceeds a predetermined percentage of the current carried by one of the conductors. The object may be effected, as shown, by connecting one terminal of the current coils of both relays to a point 13 in the auxiliary circuit, and the other terminals of the relays respectively to the ends of an impedance coil 14. an intermediate point of which is equipotential to the point 13. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 4. the relays are in series with the transformer windings which oppose one another, and the impedance is cross-connected between them.
