Overlap joints with tapered spigot or socket.- A connexion for two sections a, a<1> of hose or like piping, for example in a vacuum cleaning apparatus, is made by providing the sections with metal or similar stiffening-tubes b, b<1> which are inserted into and project from the ends of the sections and are covered externally with rubber or like sheathing c, c<1>, the sheathing of one tube being adapted to be wedged into the other tube. In the construction shown, the tube b<1> is flared outwardly at b<2> to receive the correspondingly tapered sheathing c of the other tube b. The sheathings c, c<1> are arranged to overlap the ends of the hose a, a<1> and may be undercut at the overlapping portions in order to accommodate any ragged edges of the hose. The tubes b, b<1> are preferably solutioned or cemented in the hose. Should the hose fail near the connexion, a short length of the faulty section can be cut away and the connexion then remade
