Abstract

4230. Wade, H., [Leeson, J. R.]. March 17. Winding - machines; thread-guides.-In machines of the type described in Specification 4091/13 for winding electric coils of the kind described in Specification 4229/15, [Class 35, Dynamo-electric generators &c.], in order to build up the washerlike abutments at the ends of the coil, the yarn is given a longer total traverse than the wire and one or more supplementary short traverses each time it reaches the end of its main traverse. The yarn and wire guides are arranged one on each side of the winding-spindle b, Fig. 1, and are reciprocated on guide-frames e, e' by cams C, C'. The wire-guide is operated by the cam C<1> loose on the cam shaft c and slowly rotated by worm gearing D, as described in Specification 16,421/14. The yarn-guide is operated by the cam C, which is of such a shape as to give the supplementary traverses at each end of the main traverse. Fig. 6 shows the development of one form of the cam C, and Fig. 8 shows one winding of yarn as laid by such a cam. The total traverse of the wire is between w<1> and w<2>.
