Abstract
1733. Richmond Gas Stove and Meter Co., and Hartley, H. Feb. 3. Thermometers and pyrometers.-An instrument for measuring radiant heat from gas-fires &c. comprises a metallic heat-absorbing body a, which is placed to absorb radiations passing through an aperture f in a casing or chamber e, and is provided with a thermometer o or other device for measuring temperature. The casing e has hollow walls through which water at a constant temperature is circulated. The body a is suspended from the casing e and is clamped in position by means of cork studs h, h<1> and a threaded rod h<2>. The thermometer o projects through a hole in a removable cover c. A screen i formed of spaced nickel-plated sheets is adapted to be suspended in front of the aperture f, and can be moved up and down along guide-wires m by means of a wire or chain j. The thermometer stem and the stand are shielded from the radiations by plates p, q.
