Abstract

Liquid supply controlled by variations of gas pressure.-The supply of water to the carbide is controlled by the movements produced in a mercury seal by the variations in gas pressure in the generator. In the construction shown, the seal is formed by a partition b in a vessel a containing mercury. One side of the partition communicates by a pipe d with the gas chamber c of the generator, and the other side is provided with inlet and outlet pipes e, g forming part of the water-supply system. The mercury is arranged to control, as it rises and falls, the passage g<1> connecting the ends of these pilpes. To prevent loss of mercury, it is convenient to provide the pipes to the seals. with chambers m. The partition is hollow and connected to pipe l to provide an escape for excess gas.
