Abstract
24,742. Sclater, A. W. Dec. 29. Couplings, disconnectible; overlap joints with divided sleeve; sleeve joints held by cement and the like.-A joint or coupling for connecting two lengths of a tubular conduit or a tubular conduit to a junction box &c., in order that electric and mechanical continuity may be preserved, comprises an inner clamping-sleeve having a circular interior and an elliptical exterior, and either slit longitudinally or being somewhat distortible, arranged rotatably in an outer sleeve having a corresponding elliptical interior, so that, when the inner sleeve is rotated, it clamps the conduit tube or tubes and also wedges firmly against the outer sleeve. Fig. 3 shows a connexion for two lengths of conduit tube b, in which case two inner sleeves g, preferably having hexagonal heads j, are arranged rotatably in an outer sleeve a. Fig. 5 shows a method of connecting tubular conduits b to a junction box, each outlet a constituting an outer sleeve, and a clamping-sleeve g being employed in conjunction with each outlet. The metallic surfaces in contact may be coated with a finely divided metallic substance, such as aluminium pewter or type metal, carried in a liquid vehicle which subsequently evaporates.
