Abstract

23,288. Berguis, F. Nov. 29, 1913, [Convention date]. Void. [Published under Section 91 of the Act.] Chlorine.-In the production of alkali sulphates and chlorine by treating chlorides with sulphurous acid and air or oxygen, the temperature of the salt mixture is kept below its melting-point which varies during the process, the lowest point being the eutectic point (about 623‹ C.) when about equimoelcular proportions of chloride and sulphate are present. The chloride is preferably powdered and may be treated in an inclined rotary tube, no external heat being required except to heat the end at which the hot gases enter to about 500‹ C. to start the operation. The temperature is regulated by regulating the rate of flow of the gases. Specification 15,152/99 is referred to.
