Jigging conveyers.-The sections of a reciprocating-trough conveyer for coal &c. are secured together by clips which engage tapered lugs on the ends of the troughs and form the attachment for the conveyer support. As shown in sectional plan, Fig. 4, straps 1, 2 are secured to the trough sections at such distances from their ends that the strap 1 extends beyond the abutment of the end surfaces of the troughs, giving a dust-tight joint. The straps carry lugs 4, 5 which abut on each other and enter the clips 6, retention being effected by dovetails 7 formed on the lugs or by slots in the clips engaging rivet heads or the like projecting from the straps or the trays 3. The lugs 4 may be tapered, as shown in Fig. 5, to combine with parallel-sided lugs 5 and give a symmetrically tapering joint lug, in which case one form of clip may be used interchangeably on both sides of the trough ; or, alternatively, one side of the joint lug may be parallel to the vertical edge of the trough joint. The straps 1 may be replaced by lugs formed upon the troughs, and the lugs 5 may also be secured to the troughs directly instead of being mounted on straps 2.
