Electro - magnetic switches. - In a switch having a number of pairs of contacts adapted to be closed by a common switch arm, an electro - magnet, under certain conditions. moves a contact of one pair out of the path of the other, so that the corresponding circuit is not closed when the switch arm operates. A ' contactor' switch, according to the invention, has a main contact-arm 1 actuated by an electro-magnet 6, the arm carrying a contact 2 which, in conjunction with a brush 4, shortcircuits a section of resistance in the usual way. The arm has a tail-piece 12 carrying an auxiliary contact 10, which, when the main arm closes, meets a stationary contact 11, completing an auxiliary circuit to the actuating-coil of the next contactor. The contact 11 is mounted on a spring-controlled armature in the field of an electro-magnet 13 connected in the power circuit, and is pulled down out of range of the contact 10 if the current in the power circuit rises above an adjusted limit. Switches, according to the invention, are employed in motor control systems for effecting automatic acceleration.
