Abstract
20,537. Short, H. L., Short, A. E., and Short, H. O. Oct. 5. Bayonet-joint fastenings.-The sections of the spar of a folding wing of an aeroplane are secured by a bayonet-joint in which the pin 4, Fig. 6, secured to one section, is formed with radial projections 5 which enter corresponding slots 9, Fig. 5, in a sleeve 7 screwed into the other section 6. The sleeve is formed with an annular recess 10 so that, on the rotation of the sleeve by the lever 8, the sections are locked together. The coacting side faces of the projections and the recess may be inclined so that the parts are drawn tightly together. The handlever is provided with a locking-pin. The sleeve may be made to embrace the section 6 and is formed in this case with a flange 12, Fig. 8, slotted for the passage of the projections 5. In another form, the pin 4, Fig. 9, is formed with a screw-thread cut longitudinally so as to leave a group of radial projections 5 which enter slots in the threaded sleeve 7. The parts are locked by the rotation of the pin 4 to which the lever 8 is secured.
