Operating - mechanism applicable generally; spring operation and control.-Railway points are operated from the point-rod a through a lever d, e which during the operation of the points is prevented from tilting by abutments p, r but, on the completion of the movement, is free to tilt against the action of a spring m when the points are trailed through. The figures show the position of the parts when the points are being trailed through in both of the set positions. In a modification, Fig. 8, the twoarmed lever d, e is replaced by a three-armed lever operating in conjunction with abutments p<2>, r. In a further modification the spring m is replaced by a pair of springs, one on either side of the arm d, or the spring may be carried by the rod a and connected to a third arm in line with the arm e.
