Abstract

18,081. Riper, L. C. van. July 30. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Winding - apparatus. - Relates to automatic winding-mechanism for time-pieces, applicable to clocks used on motor-vehicles, in engine-rooms, or other places where rotary power is available, The mainspring is wound by means of an arbor 1. upon which is slidably mounted a wheel 5, the wheel being engaged by a cam 3, pivoted on a collar 2 on the arbor. As the mainspring unwinds, the arbor rotates until the cam is turned on its pivot by striking a fixed stop 4. Thereupon the cam allows the wheel 5 to move, under the influence of a spring 10, into gear with a pinion 6, which is constantly driven by the source of power through a flexible or other connexion 9. The rotation of the arbor 1 is thus reversed, the mainspring being wound up until the cam 3 strikes the other side of the stop 4 and is turned so as to throw the wheel 5 out of gear. A friction-clutch may be employed between the arbor 1 and the mainspring arbor.
