Tinning and coating by dipping.-A non- nipping delivery apparatus for tinning and like machines comprises two or more rollers with or without guides or plain endless belts combined therewith, or one or more of the rollers, bands, or guides being mounted so as to move automatically towards or away from the path of a plate as the plate leaves or enters the delivery apparatus. The delivery apparatus may comprise three rollers b<1>, b<2> b<3>, Fig. 1, one of the rollers b<3> being mounted on a weight-operated arm c, which tends to move the roller constantly across the path of the plate f, a stop g being provided to limit the movement. In another arrangement, the rollers b', b<3> may be mounted in bearing-blocks pressed by springs towards the path of the plate; or one of the rollers b<1>, b<3> may he replaced by a self-adjusting guide operated similarly to the roller or rollers. In another arrangement, the delivery apparatus comprises two rolls m, Fig. 3, carrying projecting bands or disks n, the bands on one roller being out of register with those on the other, and the rollers being pressed together by springs, weights, etc.; or the disks on one roller may be replaced by endless bands passing around the roller and around another roller, the band serving as a conveyer for the plates after they pass out from between the rollers. In another arrangement, the plates are pressed against one roller b<2>, Fig. 5, or bands thereon by endless bands r passing around the other rollers b<1>, b<3>. The rollers employed in the various modifications may have a cross-section similar to that shown in Fig. 6, the longitudinal section of such rolls being preferably similar to that shown in Fig. 3.
