Abstract

Stapling.-In a device for securing doubly bent hooks to labels, tickets, &c., the shanks of the hooks forming means for attaching the labels &c. to paper boxes &c., a cardboard label A is introduced sideways into the device and placed upon a table B below a. guide C. A doubly bent hook, Fig. 5, is then forced through the edge of the label by the machine, of which the device forms the lower part, and the head D of the hook is pressed against the label by a member E, which is moved forwards and backwards through a link H by a pivoted lever G; the member E is curved, as shown in Fig. 1, to enable it also to perform a slight motion in a vertical plane. The member E is guided between a spring-pressed plunger I and an adjustable arm K, and is provided with three short lugs Q, which are adapted to straddle the shanks of the hooks and to enter recesses R in a hook support S. These recesses are normally closed by yielding fillings T to prevent the shanks of the hook from entering the support S, the fillings being pressed back by the lugs Q as the member E moves forwards.
