17,127. Payne, E. M. July 20. Accelerometers.-The apparatus comprises a box, shown in plan view, within which is pivoted at b the arms a of a weighted horizontal pendulum having secured thereto, near the weight w, one end of a cord, which passes round a spindle f hearing a pointer and is fastened to a spring c. A wheel m secured to the spindle f acts as a steadying-device. Tension of the spring is regulated by two pins p on an adjustable arm n pivoted at o. A stop k is provided, against which the arm of the pendulum is drawn at the zero position, negative accelerations being disregarded. In use, the box is placed in a horizontal position with the upper and lower pendulum arms a at right-angles to the line of movement. It is stated that the movement of the pointer can be graduated so as to indicate speed. The box may be mounted within an outer casing by means of gimbals and controlled in movement by a light packing.
