Abstract

Mechanical stoking; fire-bars and grates.- In a mechanical underfeed stoker of the kind comprising a central fuel-trough with a reciprocating base the motion of which is communicated to moving fire-bars arranged on each side of the trough, special means are provided for communicating motion to the base and from the base to the fire-bars. The central fuel-trough 3 is provided with a reciprocating base 9 driven by a pin 26 engaging with a slot 50 in the base and attached to a worm-wheel driven by a motor 2. The base is provided with an arm 48 adapted to engage with fixed stops 27 and an adjustable stop or nut 56 on a screw spindle 55 when the base is reciprocated, to transmit a reciprocating movement to the piston 10, which feeds the fuel from the hopper 1 into the trough 3. Oppositely inclined cams 35, 36 are mounted on the base and transmit a rocking movement to an arm 32 on a longitudinal shaft 6. This shaft is provided with arms 37, 38, 39, which are connected to rods 40, 41 adapted to transmit a rocking motion to bars 7 connected to lugs on the fire-bars. The base 9 is provided with lugs 46, 47 to distribute the fuel and is guided by rollers 51. The trough 3 is provided at the sides with removable slotted members 11 for the supply of air.
