Sewing-machines; governing needle thread.- A rotary take-up device for a sewing-machine comprises a disk mounted on the forward end of the needle-actuating shaft and provided with thread-engaging elements, which co-operate with grooves or housings on a fixed disk situated close to the rotating disk and parallel with it. The rotary disk 16, Fig. 3, carries on its rim a take-up element 17, an auxiliary take-up pin 19 and a second pin 20 on radial spokes 15, and a stud 21 on the hub of the disk. The pins 19, 20 are adapted to co-operate with guard ribs 34, 35 on the stationary disk. The stud 21 engages a circular groove between concentric ribs, and the element 17 runs in a groove in the stationary disk. The thread is led from a guide 40 across between the two disks to a guide-pin 53, and thence to the needle. As the disk 16 revolves, the element 17 engages the thread and carries it upwardly. The pin 19 then comes into action, entering between the ribs 34, and accelerates the thread-drawing action. When the pin reaches the end of its runway, the thread is disengaged from it by a bowed deflector 25. This leaves a certain amount of slack thread, which is subsequently taken up bv further movement of the element 17. The stitch is set by this means, and a further supply of thread is drawn off to form the next loop. As the element 17 begins to give up the thread drawn off, the pin 20 comes into action and enters between the ribs 35 to control the slack. The thread is stripped from the pin 20 by the bowed deflector 26, and the slack supported by the stud 21 is seized from the needle and taken up by the loop-taker 8'. The cycle is then repeated. The device is shown applied to a machine comprising a needle 7 and a rotary hook 8<1>, which encircles the thread case and performs two revolutions for each reciprocation of the needle-bar.
