Abstract
15,030. Yost, C. June 23. A n i m a l s , catching and destroying; animal traps. - A self-setting trap of the tilting-platform type for use in either an upright or horizontal position comprises a perforated plate 2 having in the centre an entrance funnel 5 which is surrounded by the bait receptacle 6 and leads to a second funnel 8 in which tilting platforms 10, 12, Fig. 2, are arranged. When used in the position shown, the platform 12 is operative, and the trap may be arranged over a hole in the ground or on a receptacle 1 and is protected by a hood 16. When the trap is used on its side, the platform 10 is operative, and legs 17 are turned into contact with the ground to prevent rolling. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the tilting platforms 19<a>, 19<b>, 21 are rigidly connected, and in the position shown, the platform 19b is operative, and when the trap is turned on its side, the platform 19<a>, which then closes the aperture in the side of the funnel 8, comes into action. In another form, the lower tilting platform is replaced by a pair of rollers 22, Fig. 5, hanging loosely on arms 23. They may be held together by a light spring 24, and the bottom of the funnel 8 is shaped to correspond. The tilting platforms and rollers may be of polished material to attract the animals.
