Abstract
11,376. Tolley, R. G. May 8. Cranks.-A crank, which may be used as a starting-handle for internal-combustion engines or for rotating machinery, consists of three parts A, B, C which can be telescoped when the crank is not to be used and are rigid when extended. The joint between the parts A, B consists of a spherical head with a projection J and a square shank G on the tube B, which coacts with a spherical bearing and slots H, K on the tube A. The tube B at its other end has two opposing holes M of the same size as the rod C, and two pegs N which are always in two sets of grooves P in the rod. The rod is turned from the position shown in the upper part of the Figure until it is at right-angles to the tube B, and then the rod is pushed through the holes in the tube until the head of the rod bears on the tube, as shown in the lower part of the Figure.
