Abstract
10,298. Jackson, W. J. Mellersh-, [Ingersoll-Rand Co.]. April 25. Percussive hand tools. -To avoid a cushioned blow of the piston of a percussive tool, it is designed so that no fluid is supplied to the forward end of the cylinder until near the end of its stroke. Fluid is supplied constantly to the end 2 of the cylinder and acts continuously on the smaller end 6 of the differential piston. The annular surface of the piston is alternately put into communication with the admission and exhaust by the recess 7 and port 15 and the pistoncontrolled port 16. The forward end of the cylinder is put into communication with the admission when the head 6 passes the port 11, and the fluid supply is continued through port 10 until cut off by the return stroke of the head 6. The port 10 is closed during the forward stroke by a valve 12 which is acted upon by fluid pressure from the annular chamber until the exhaust port 16 is opened, whereupon the fluid pressure in the passage 9 reverses the valve 12.
