Abstract

4415. Short, H. L.. Short. A. E., and Short, H. O. Feb. 20. Floats, arrangement of; shock of landing, deadening.-The floats of hydro-aeroplanes are connected to the fuselage 10 through the medium of stays 9, 11, pivoted at one end to the fuselage and at the other end to two transverse parallel spars 7, 7<a>, which are guided in vertical closed slots on each side of the float. Springs 13 passing round pins 12 maintain the spars at the upper ends of the slots, and thus avoid jars to the machine when landing on water. Metal washers fixed to the spars limit the transverse motion of the spars with respect to the floats. The struts are connected to the spars by means of sleeves fitting the spars between the sides of the floats.
