[Published under Section 91 of the Act.] Mixing solids and liquids in definite proportions.-Relates to machines for automatically delivering measured quantities of liquids or solids, and reagents to test-glasses. The machine shown is adapted for the testing of urine, which is collected in a basin B1, and the measured quantities separated in inclined buckets C1. Actuation of the starting-handle K, releases a tank R connected by cords to drums O1 on a shaft 0, and in falling the tank rotates this shaft, and the shafts M, L connected to it. The frame carrying the buckets C1 is connected by cords to drums on the shaft M, and is raised by the rotation of this shaft. The buckets, which move into an upright position when being lifted, are tipped by engaging a stop when in a raised position, and discharge their contents into funnels D1 leading to the test-glasses A1. The shaft L carries a series of cams, and some of these are arranged to open the feed-valves of reagent-vessels F1 so as to discharge measured quantities of reagents into the glasses A1. After the test is completed, the valves a1 at the bottom of the. glasses are opened to empty them, by cams on the shaft L, and a further cam on this shaft actuates the cock V2 on the pipe V, supplying flushing- liquid to the glasses A, and basin B1. A valve r<7> in the bottom of the tank R is opened when the latter reaches its lowest position, so discharging its contents. The empty tank is then raised by its connected weights r<2> until it .engages a catch r6 connected to a valve s8 forming part of a discharge siphon of a tank S. By this arrangement, the tank R is again filled, but is retained in a raised position by a catch k1 connected to the starting-handle K1, and the machine is ready for a renewed actuation.
