Abstract

2562. Kennedy, D. S. Feb. 1, 1913, [Convention date]. Setting type; magazines for typo-bar making machines. (1) In machines such as are described in Specification 14,582/90, a number of magazines A, B, Fig. 2, adjustable for change of fount are supported by a removable frame E, which carries the adjusting-means. The magazines are provided with base frames A<1>, B<1> and are guided in their movement by arms F, F<2> secured to the frame B<1> and engaging the sides of the frame E. The arms F<2> bear against rolls E<10> which prevent forward movement of the magazines. The upper base frame A' rests upon the magazine B and is prevented from sliding forwards by pins engaging upward extensions of the arms F. The frame E is supported at the rear upon a rod E', which it engages by means of adjusting-screws E<5>. The frame rests upon screws E<2> at the front and is also provided with lateral adjusting - screws. The magazines are shifted at the front by cams G on a shaft G<1> carried by the frame E, and at the rear by toggle-links H, H<1> connected by a rod H<2>. Links H<3> connect the rod H<2> to the cams G or to arms on the shatt G<1>, and springs H<10> tend to straighten the toggles and also to balance the magazines. The shaft G<1> is rotated by means of a hand-lever which is loose on the shaft and can be locked thereto by a spring-pressed pin. A second spring pin enables the shaft to be locked to the frame E. Hooks K pivoted on the frame A' facilitate the removal of the magazine A. To permit of removal of either magazine, the frame E may be raised by hand and supported upon a strut L. The magazine entrance or its supporting- bracket D' is pivoted to the frame E. (2) The front wall C of the face-plate is provided with pivoted guide-rods passing through eyes on the main frame to hold the wall in its raised position. Escapements.-Means is provided for adjusting the escapement actuating-levers C', Fig. 8, and the reeds C' relatively to each other and to the escapements. A bracket N depending from a rod N<3> carries a grid N' to guide the reeds, and a bar N' to support the levers C<1>. The supporting-rod N<3> is adjustable transversely to its length at one or both ends.
