Abstract

2158. Marks, E. C. R., [Toledo Scale Co.]. Jan. 27. Pendulum - weight apparatus. - Relates to a counter, platform, suspended or other weighing- scale of the type having two load-balancing pendulums and comprises the combination therewith of means for distributing the load between the pendulums and of links connecting the pendulums for eliminating errors of indication due to the apparatus being out of level. As applied to a suspended computing-balance, the scale-pan 3 is supported by the cylinder 32 of a dash-pot, the piston of which is attached to a stationary rod 40, and the cylinder is in turn suspended from segments 26 by means of bands 27, sliding frames 28, and bands 31. A second pair of segments 16 rigid with the segments 26 is suspended from bands 14 attached to the upper ends of tracks 13 and under the influence of the load the segments 16 are caused to roll up the tracks 13 until a balance is attained by the outward movement of the pendulum weights 18. The cylinder 32 thus distributes the load between the two pendulums. The centres 17 of the segments are loosely connected by links 20 and in order to avoid error due to any inclination of the balance as a whole, the shaft 8 of the weight and value indicating-drum is driven from the centre of the bar 20, the connexion being by means of a spring 12 and a rack-bar 11. Buffers 48 are arranged in proximity to the pendulum weights 18.
