Hinged handles; fixing by separate socketpieces and screwed and like joints.-Bill-hooks, axes, reaping-hooks, &c. are interchangeably secured to a handle a by bolts d passing through coincident holes in the blade tang b<2> and in a pair of flat extensions c<2> on the handle socket c. The end of the tang may be provided with an angular notch b<1> adapted to be used for manipulating the nuts of the securing-bolts, and the socket may be formed with a corresponding projection e<1> to fit the notch, as shown in Fig. 2. The tang b<2> and extensions c<2> may have a series of coincident holes, as shown in Fig. 7, for inclining the blade b at varying angles with the handle. Fig. 8 shows a further modification having the socket extensions c<2> closed along the rear edge.
