Abstract

28,405. Salomons, S. H. Dec. 9. Torpedo screens.-A screen comprising a number of open-ended tubes 1 secured together by clips 6 is used as a protection against torpedoes. The tubes, in addition to being open-ended, may be perforated along their length, the perforations 9 in one example being fitted with valves 10. The presence of water in the tubes provides greater resistance to impact, and the perforations enable the water to leave readily when the screen is hauled. When the apertures 9 are fitted with valves, the ends are constricted so as to close the valve on the impact of a torpedo. The clips 6 are flexibly secured to each other to facilitate housing.
