Abstract

26,753. Murfet, A. Nov. 21. Fixed sieves. -In apparatus for sifting or screening grain and granular and like substances, and comprising a number of fixed sieves and plates arranged to form zigzag passages, the sieves 7 and plates 6 are attached by means of strips 5 to side-pieces 4, Fig. 4, whereby the sieves and the plates are arranged in sets which are independent of the casing 1 of the apparatus; the casing has one side arranged as a door so that the sieves &c. can be readily changed, cleaned, &c. The grain &c. is fed in from a hopper 2 and passes down through the zigzag passages formed by the sets of sieves and plates, the material sliding over one sieve 7 falling on to a lower sieve, and the smaller pieces which pass through the sieve falling on to a plate 6 and being delivered from this plate on to a lower plate. At the bottom of the apparatus, the material from the sieves and from the plates is delivered into independent chambers having discharging pieces 9 inclined in one direction for the material from the sieves and in the other direction for that from the plates. In a modification, the material is adapted to be separated into more than two grades, the material being delivered on to a preliminary top sieve, and after passing through this sieve falling through two sets of sieves and plates arranged one above the other in the casing. The material not passing through the top sieve passes down a side shoot, and the material from the plates of the first set of sieves &c. passes to the second set, whence it is delivered at the bottom as in the apparatus shown in Fig. 1. The material from the sieves of the first set is delivered by inclined pieces to a side shoot.
