Abstract

25,763. Warner, T. H. Nov. 11. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Sliding valves. - A screw-actuated doublefaced tapered sluice valve, of the type opening into a sump below the valve seat, as described in Specification 2876/05, is provided with means for filling the space between the valve member and the sump opening in all positions of the valve member. The valve member is divided axially into two parts e, e<1>, each part being guided parallel to its seat by interfitting lugs and grooves on the valve member and casing respectively. The valve is actuated by a screwed spindle g having a footstep bearing h in the bottom of the sump and engaging a nut f having a sliding connexion with the divided valve member. The upper part of the spindle is screwed to a slightly quicker pitch than the lower part and operates a tapered filling-block d to fill the space between the parts as the valve opens. The valve ports are made of greater cross-sectional area that the pipe line, and a removable cover is provided to facilitate access to the valve member.
