Abstract
23,479. Hicks, E. F., [Nethersole, M.]. Oct. 17. Movable weirs; sluice gates.-Weir and like shutters a, which are pivoted on their lower edges, are provided with struts c, Figs. 2 and 3, pivoted to the shutters, while their lower ends may be locked to support the shutter and may be released to allow the latter to fall. In the form shown, the heel c<1> of the strut bears against a flat surface of a shaft f, which may be rotated by a release lever h. To prevent the shutter from falling forward, its lower end is made to engage a notched plate i. The falling of the first shutter of a series may operate the release lever of the second shutter, and so on, and similarly in rising; but in the latter case, external means are required to raise the shutters, the lower ends of the struts jumping over the shaft f.
