Abstract

22,422. Lehmann, A. Oct. 4. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Ironing-machines with roller and stationary iron. -The necks or collar-bands and yokes of shirts are ironed by placing them in position upon a partly felt-covered former a, a<1> mounted upon a rotating shaft b driven by means of screw gearing e with pedal-operated belt-shifting gear, the former being heated internally by means of a gas burner a<2>. After the work is in position, an iron h, shaped to correspond with the former, is forced against it and is kept stationary in the pressing position during ironing. The iron is heated internally, air and gas being supplied through the hollow arm h<1> that supports it, and the necessary movement is obtained by means of a handle k carrying a camplate grooved to engage the teeth of a wheel h<6> secured to the arm and pivoted upon a spindle j<1>. A stationary guard g, constructed of any suitable fabric and supported upon the spindle b, prevent entanglement of the sbirt with the mechanism. According to the Provisional Specification, the front of the shirt is carried by a wire guard to ensure the shirt remaining in position ; the handle for moving the pressing-iron may also operate by means of teeth thereon.
