Abstract

22,229. Faber, C. G. E. Trumelet-. Oct. 5, 1912, [Convention date]. Parachutes; aerostats. -A parachute b, secured by a cord d to the body of an aviator, is adapted to be ejected by a spring releasable by a hand-lever k from a casing a, trunnioned at l on the frame of the aerial machine so as to swing into the vertical position for action. To stabilize and to retard the descent of the parachute, a balloon i is adapted to be inflated from a gas receptacle h, the valve h<1> of which is opened upon ejection of the parachute by a cord m fastened to the casing. An arm h<3> on the valve handle holds the balloon in the folded condition. The parachute is of umbrella-like construction, and is opened upon ejection from the casing by a spring acting on the runner to which the stays are connected. The ejecting-spring disposed in the bottom of the casing engages a plate e on the parachute stick. The parachute is retained in the casing and the casing is prevented from assuming the vertical position by a bolt j<1>, j<2>, Fig. 4, which passes through the machine frame and the casing and engages the plate e. The bolt is withdrawn by the hand-lever k. A longitudinal slot is provided in the casing for the passage of the suspension cord d. Antifriction rollers may be mounted on the parachute ribs to facilitate exit from the casing. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) states also that the parachute may be ejected by a cartridge adapted to be ignited by the aviator. This subject - matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
