Abstract

21,811. Sutton, L. O. Oct. 3. Table games.-A game imitating baseball is played on a table with balls propelled by cues, and the movement of the " baserunner " is shown on the table by means of electric lamps. These lamps 8 are arranged below transparent strips 6 inserted in the top of the table and connecting transparent squares 7 which represent the bases. Openings 10 are provided in the table in places corresponding to those usually occupied by the players on a baseball field, and blocks 11 are placed behind the openings to direct the balls into them. Balls passing into these openings are out of play and are conveyed by channels to a receptacle 15 on the side of the table. In playing the game, a ball is projected by means of an ordinary cue at a cushion 9, and on rebounding, if it passes correctly through the diamond, it either passes into an opening 10 or travels to the boundary of the table. In the latter case, it passes over one of a number of narrow platforms 61 and falls into a channel which returns it to a receptacle 59. The platform is depressed by the weight of the ball, and closing the circuit of an electric motor allows it to rotate one or more arms. The arms close the contacts of the lamps 8 and thus the progress of the supposed runner is shown by the successive lighting of the lamps. The supposed player runs one or more bases according to the particular platform depressed by the ball.
