Labelling and stampapplying.-In machines for simultaneously affixing and cancelling or dating adhesive stamps and labels, the type 25 is held normally out of contact with the affixing - foot 7 on the plunger 6 and in a position to be engaged by an ink - pad 22, and is adapted to be moved by, and together with, the foot when this descends. The ends of the typeholder 24 work in vertical slots in the side walls of the machine, and one of its ends carries a guide-plate 28, which is slotted to engage stop-pins, and is normally raised by a spring. When the foot 7 descends, a recess 23 in it accommodates the type-holder so that the type and the foot can act together upon the stamps, which may be severed from a strip 10 by a cutter 8 on the plunger. The ink-pad 22 is carried by a lever 20 adapted to be rocked on a pivot 17 by a spring 32 and by a projection 31 on the plunger 6, or by a pin on the plunger working in a cam-slot formed in the lever; in the first case, a slot 15 in the plunger accommodates the free end of the lever when this swings inwards.
