Abstract

20,646. M³ller, F. Sept. 18, 1912, [Convention date]. ' Crown corks,' applying.-A 'Crown-cork' capsule is cut from metal strip by which it is transported to a cap-shaping die, in which it is retained until the die reaches a cap-applying position, the capsule being then placed on the bottle. The strip is fed by rolls 74,Fig. 7, to a cutting-out stamp 82, and thence to a shaping- stamp 67. The die containing the capsule is then rotated with a table 38 to a plunger 66 which presses a cork washer into the capsule. On further rotation of the table, the capsule is placed on a bottle neck 129, Fig. 2, by an arm 63. The capsule is finally fixed by a capsuling - head 147, to which the bottle 129 is moved by a rotating table 131. The machine is driven by a shaft 7, Fig. 1, connected with a driving-pulley 8, which is thrown out of connexion when the table 131 presents a space without a bottle. The bottles are supported on spring plungers 126, Fig. 2, which rise when a bottle is omitted, so that a pin 151 on the plungers engages a detent 154. The spring detent has a wedgeshaped end 156, Fig. 9, engaging a spring-pressed rod 157, also with a wedge end, which engages the trip-rod 160, Fig. 1, of the pulley 8. The stamp 82 is carried on a slide frame 86, Fig. 7, and is operated by a lever 87, Fig. 1, on a shaft 88 which also carries the arm 63 for placing a capsule on a bottle neck. The shaft 88 is rocked by an arm engaging in a cam-slot in a disk 9 attached to a shaft 5, which is driven from the shaft 7 by a worm-wheel 177. The capsuling-head 147, Fig. 2, is driven by a pin 145 engaging a cam-slot 130 in a disk 179, connected by worm gearing with the shaft 7. The plungers 66, 67, Fig. 7, are driven by an arm 59 of a bell-crank 60, Fig. 2, on the arm of which is a cam roller 61<a> engaging a slot in the cam 9. The cap-placing arm 63 is similarly driven. Cork washers 45, Fig. 7, are fed down a tube 47, and are prevented from sticking by wire brushes (not shown). A slide 48 worked from a cam 55, Fig. 1, delivers the washers to the plunger 66, Fig. 7. The table 38, Fig. 2, is intermittently rotated by ratchet mechanism connected by a rod 16 with a rockicg lever 11. The table 131 is geared to a wheel 134, Fig. 2, on the same spindle as the table 38. The feed-rollers 74, Fig. 7, are geared together and the lower one is worked by a roller clutch provided with a ball detent to prevent movement of the roller except, in a forward direction.
