Abstract

Openers and cleaners. -Dust and other foreign matter is removed from fibrous and waste fibrous material by treatment in a revolving perforated cylinder by means of arms mounted on the central axis of the cylinder, separate and independent drivers being provided for the cylinder and for the arms. The cylinder A is keyed on the shaft a', which is driven through open and crossed belts, which can be placed alternately upon the pulley a<2>. The cylinder is formed of wire netting or perforated metal with solid ends. The arms Bare mounted upon a sleeve b on the shaft a', the sleeve projecting through the end of the cylinder and having a spur - wheel b<3> keyed upon it. The gear b<3> is driven from a pulley b<7> through a gear b<9> and planet-gears b<10>, b<4> carried by a frame b<6> keyed to the shaft a<1> and secured to the end of the cylinder. The direction of rotation of the cylinder is reversed automatically several times during the treatment of the material. According to the Provisional Specification, means may be provided for reversing the direction of rotation of the sleeve b and arms B.
