Abstract

19,695. Allday, E., and Collins, J. N. Sept. 1. Filtering.-Relates to apparatus for filtering air and gases, of the type in which dust-laden air is delivered into a chamber or hopper a and thence into a series of bags c, a rotating damper r being provided for closing the lower ends of the bags in succession while they are being cleaned. According to the invention, the bags are normally kept taut, as by springs f, and, for cleaning purposes, are sagged by means of pivoted bars i, which are connected to the caps e of the bags by rods or wires b and are periodically operated by a cam or incline k<2>, Fig. 3, on a rotary or travelling platform k. The symmetrical arrangement of the bags over the hopper as shown is not essential. In the particular form shown, the springs f are connected to the supporting-frame by hooks g with screw-threaded shanks to permit of the adjustment of the tension, and are connected to the caps e by links e' passing through disks e<2> riveted to the caps. The platform is formed as a worm-wheel k driven from a worm shaft p and secured to a spindle n on which is also mounted the closing damper r.
