Abstract

19,081. Soc. Franþaise des Films et CinÚmatographes "Eclair." Aug. 26, 1912, [Convention date]. Engraving; stencils, -Relates to pantograph machines, for cutting stencils for colouring kinematograph films, of the kind in which the tracer is moved over a projected image, and consists in employing as a pattern an image of the section of the film immediately in the rear of the section actually being cut, and in using opposed cutters operating on the opposite sides of the film. The machine comprises two pillars 4 braced by plates 5, 6 which support a table 7 on which the film 8 is positioned by pins 8*. Light from a source 9 passes through a condenser 10, the film 8, a glass plate 10<1>, an objective 11, a prism 12, an objective 13 and a prism 14 and produces an erect enlarged image on a screen 15. Suspended from the plate 6 by means of a spherical joint a is a rectangular frame 18, having a rod 16 guided in a slot 20, to which is connected the tracer 22. Mounted on pivots 26 in the frame 18 is a frame 27, rigidly attached by rods 24 to a frame 25, having a foot 28 resting on and adapted to slide over the glass plate 10<1>. The frame 25 carries two tubes 29, on opposite sides of the film 8, accommodating cutting-tools 37 which are withdrawn against micrometer screws 33 by springs 32. The screws 33 are carried by levers 34, of which the movement is limited by screws 35, carrying soft iron armatures 37 coacting with an electro-magnet 36, by means of which the cutters are forced against the film. The parts of the film surrounded by the scored contours can be removed by slightly bending the film.
